S M Control Engineering was established in the 1980’s by a team of qualified electrical and control systems engineers.
The company is based in Walsall in the West Midlands UK, which is at the very heart of the United Kingdom and within a few minutes travel to the M6, M5, M54 and M40/M42 Motorway network.

SURJIT BAJWA BSC (ELEC. ENG) - MANAGING DIRECTOR
With over 45 years’ engineering experience in the Electrical Engineering Industry, Surjit has previously held positions at Rolls-Royce, British Telecom, as well as engineering roles in the British Nuclear Fuels Industry.
MARK BURCHILL (HNC ELECTRICAL ENG) - TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
Mark has served his time in the Industry, with almost 30 years’ experience, from “boy to man” Mark has previously worked for the likes of Rolls Royce and Airbus, he also has considerable experience in Control Panel design and manufacturing, writing software (HMI/SCADA/PLC) as well as designing and installing systems for several major water authorities throughout the UK.
With his technical and practical knowledge, Mark is a crucial member of the team at SM Control, he is responsible for Project Management, selection and procurement of all control panel hardware.
JAMES COLEY (BTEC ELECTRICAL ENG) - SENIOR CONTROL SYSTEMS ENGINEER
James has some 20 years’ experience in the design of Electrical Control Panels and producing PLC / HMI software for Siemens, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, and Omron PLCs. James has a wealth of experience in the Control Systems relating to the Water Industry.
BOB ALCOCK (ONC ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING) - ELECTROMECHANICAL ENGINEER
Bob has over 35 years’ experience in designing mechanical and electrical systems for a variety of different industries including Aerosol Lines, Nuclear, Water, Food & Drink and Surface Finishing Lines. He has gained knowledge over the years in designing Scada Systems. He has the capability to solve most mechanical and electrical problems. Very familiar with ATEX Zones 1 & 2 equipment selection.
Bob is responsible for technical design and ISO 9001 audits and compliance. Bob has been employed at the company for over 30 years, during which time he has accumulated a wealth of knowledge in the industry.
JAMES DALTON (HNC MECHANICAL PRODUCTION ENG) - PRODUCTION MANAGER
James joined the company around 4 years ago as Production Engineer. Having worked in a fast moving environment, James is the ideal person to look after the day to day production processes for the company. In addition to his role as a Production Manager, James is involved in site commissioning work along with other specialist engineers to provide customer interface and any site facility requirements for the commissioning engineers.
MALCOLM COPE (HNC ENG) - CONTROL SYSTEMS ENGINEER
Malcolm has some 30 years’ experience in SCADA systems/HMI systems PLC systems machine automation and Software logic programming, Malcolm also has extensive knowledge and experience in Electrical and Mechanical Installations to current IEE wiring regulations.
He also specialises in design of systems for ATEX Zones 1 & 2 environments.
CAROLE KIERNAN - ACCOUNTS ADMINISTRATOR
Carole has over 40 years’ experience in administrating payroll, handling sales ledger and general accounts using Sage software.
Carole will ensure that customer accounts are up to date. She is the main contact for customers for handling their sales ledger accounts
JASBIR BAJWA - FINANCE MANAGER
Jasbir is the Companies Finance Manager. He has been with the company for over 20 years and handles all aspects of finance control and authorises supplier payments.
Jasbir as gained a great deal of finance knowhow about the business and is a key player in ensuring that the company’s finances always remain healthy.
RON MORRIS - PROJECT ENGINEER
With over 50 years’ experience in project engineering, Ron has worked on high value projects during most of his career. He is a capable project engineer and works tirelessly to ensure that customers deadlines are met.
Ron will always ensure that each project is planned to meet the customers specification and time line.
